Out of many, one.
E pluribus unum (Latin for out of many, one) was the de facto motto of the United States from its early history. Its inclusion on the Great Seal was approved in 1782 by act of the U.S. Congress. The 13 letters of this motto were symbolic of the original 13 colonies, from whose union a single nation emerged.
Mission
The mission of E Pluribus Unum is to promote the health of our democratic republic and of civil society in general through education and public service communications that remind us of our shared interests and values, by promoting respectful and civil dialogue, and by fostering mutual understanding.

Projects
The first major project of E Pluribus Unum was to fund billboard advertisements in Arizona, Michigan and Missouri. These billboards display the message that we are all Americans, and that what we share is more powerful than what divides us. The message is intended to reach drivers as they travel and stimulate thought and conversation about what we, as Americans, have in common and how we benefit from our connections to one another. Eventually we hope to publish more and different messages in different venues, to reach people might not otherwise receive this message. We also plan to expand activities into creation and publication of a limited inventory of themed-message products that can be sold to promote the message and raise funds for the advertisements. These products may include bumper stickers, key rings, notepads, and similar items.
